Conclusion

Considering all the stories and facts about The Bermuda Triangle, I have come to believe that all myths about space-time warps and alien abductions are false. I think they are false because even though there are very few facts about the incidents, what is known about them points to show that the disappearances happened because of equipment malfunctions and failure of judgment on behalf of the experienced pilot that was in charge of Flight 19. Another valid point as to why the myth about The Bermuda Triangle could not be true is because of the fact that everyday, hundreds of flights fly over the Bermuda and yet we never hear about any incidents, if the myths were true we would be hearing about missing aircraft and ships constantly.

Evidence

Of all the famous casualties that have occurred in the area of the Bermuda Triangle no evidence has ever been found, making it difficult to determine weather or not the myths about the Bermuda are true or not. One reasonable theory as to why evidence can not be found is because at the site of all the disappearances lies the Continental Shelf. "There the ocean abruptly drops from a few hundred feet deep to several thousand feet deep" (A Brief History...). As a result of the ocean being so deep it makes sense as to why nobody could ever prove any conspiracy ideas.

Stories

Even though aircraft and ships have been lost at sea before, "The most famous US Navy losses which have occurred in the area popularly known as the Bermuda Triangle are USS Cyclops in March 1918 and the aircraft of Flight 19 in December 1945"(The Bermuda...). It was reported that Flight 19 took off at 2:10 in the afternoon on a training mission. Even though the pilot in charge of the flight was experienced "a radio message intercepted at about 4p.m was the first indication that Flight 19 was lost" (The Loss of...). After the disappearence of the aircraft multiple methods were used to find the 5 torpedo bombers, one of which consisted of another plane that was never found after take off. "Based upon a report from a merchant ship off Fort Lauderdale which sighted a "burst of flame", apparently an explosion" (The Loss of...) caused the plane to crash and sink. After extensive searching no evidence was ever found of Flight 19, leading some people to believe that rather than crash landing, the 5 bombers were warped into "a rift in space-time that opens up in the Bermuda Triangle" (Wagner), only leaving people with more questions and less and less answers.

Background

The Bermuda Triangle is located in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, between the coast of Florida, Puerto Rico, and The Bermuda Islands. The three sided segment is known for mysterious disappearances from both aircraft and ships. This area "was forever christened the Bermuda Triangle by writer V. Gaddis in a 1964 issue of Argosy, a fiction magazine" (Wagner). The legend of the Bermuda became famous on December 5, 1945 after the disappearance of Flight 19, which consisted of 5 Navy Avenger bombers (A Brief History...). On this day it is said that the Avengers mysteriously disappeared after a routine mission. Many believe that alien abductions and space-time warps are the reasons for Flight 19's vanishment, however, noone has any proof or evidence because none of the occurances left a wreckage.

Proposal

As a little girl from a very young age to this day, I have been traveling all over the United States and even out of the country. My father works for an airline company and I have been lucky enough to receive many of the benefits from his job. As a result from traveling so much, one of my favorite things to do when I'm not busy is watch the Travel Channel. I get to learn about beautiful places and about their culture. When I was about 10 years old my dad's job relocated him to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I remember thinking all I knew about Florida from the travel channel was that it was famous for its beautiful sunny  weather, the tourists sites, and its beaches. One day as I was watching the Travel Channel I came about a show about the infamous Devil's Triangle, other wise known as the Bermuda Triangle. At first I wasn't very interested, but when I learned that one of the points of the triangle was around the area of Ft. Lauderdale and Miami, Florida, I quickly became curious behind all the disappearances. I decided to write this blog to investigate the mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle and to find out if the mysterious disappearances have any truth behind them, or if they're all just scary stories told to prevent people from traveling over the area.
